The President of NASDAQ Announced the Best Entrepreneur of the Year 2000

Brno, Czech Republic - May 20, 2001

The World Entrepreneur of the Year contest, founded 15 years ago and organized annually by Ernst & Young, culminated at the world competition, where entrepreneurs from 22 countries met on May 19th in Monte Carlo, and where the winner and the recipients of five exceptional jury prizes were announced at a gala event.

John Wall, the president of Nasdaq International Ltd., the world's second largest stock exchange, who was this year's chairman for the contest's eight-member jury, announced the entrepreneur of the year: Paolo della Porta, the president, chairman, and group CEO of the Italian company SAES Getters. He took over this former family business, dealing in getters and gas purification and trace impurity analysis technology, in 1949.

The main criteria for the decisions of the jury, which was made up of winners of 1999's national Entrepreneur of the Year Contests, were growth dynamics and entrepreneurs' ability to provide innovative solutions at a worldwide scale for the longest possible period.

Among the total of 6500 entrepreneurs who took part in the contest in 22 countries, the Czech Republic was represented for the first time by Katerina Forstingerova, the director and co-owner of Moravia IT. Even though Mrs. Forstingerova did not defend her home victory before the international jury, she still has two "firsts" behind her: she was the first woman in the contest's world finale, and also the first entrepreneur from Central and Eastern Europe to take part in the contest.

The jury awarded special prizes to C. Beddoe (WestJet Airlines, Canada), R. Williams (Williams Industries, Barbados), Z. Combi (Master Currency, South African Republic), S. Kriens (Juniper Networks, USA), and the owner of one of the only three Formula 1 teams to have won at one of the Grand Prix races throughout the last four years, Eddie Jordan (Jordan Grand Prix).
